So… what exactly do I do now?

The classic strategy stories are fun to read but they all share one major theme - It’s easy to read the through-line once the story is over. It’s easy to see that the winners had ‘good’ strategy and the losers had ‘bad’ strategy. But what do you do as a lieutenant in the army when the orders are handed down? How do you call the plays during the game?
